Medieval Siege of Tottori Castle

A friend of mine just came back from Yamaguchi Prefecture. He snapped this picture of a historical monument in his travels and gave me some interesting information about troop movements from there to Tottori during the feudal period. Tottori Castle saw multiple sieges during its existence. Reinforcements came all the way from the westernmost province of the Chugoku region in this case. That even that was not enough to prevent the castle's eventual destruction is testified by the absence of any substantial architectural remains on the scalped hilltop whence the castle in all its grandeur looked down on the ordinary folks who peopled Tottori.
