If You Want Family Members to Come and Live With You in Japan

Those who wish to come to Japan must acquire a visa from the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in their home country. You can receive a Certificate of Eligibility from an immigration bureau or office in Japan and send it to your family; this will speed up the process of receiving a visa.

(1) Required Documents
1. Application for Certificate of Eligibility (available at the regional immigration bureaus and offices)
2. Two 4cm~3cm photographs
3. Grounds for application (written statement detailing reasons why the family members are coming to live with you and their proposed length of time; there is no set format )
4. Documents proving the family members relationship to you (the supporter) e.g. a copy of the Family Register, Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, Authentication Certificate (all of which need to be issued within the last three months).
5. Proof of your (the supporter's) Alien Registration
6. Proof of your (the supporter's) employment and income
[a] When you (the supporter) earn money:
Certificate of Employment or proof of self-employment and a Certificate of Tax Payment, a Form of Tax Withholding Source, or a copy of your Tax Declaration Form
[b] When you do not earn money:
Proof of your status as a student, Certificate of Scholarship, your bank account book (the supporter's)
*Documents written in a foreign language must be accompanied by a Japanese translation.
(2) Application Fee
No fee required.

Any questions regarding immigration can be directed to the regional immigration bureau or office nearest you, but actual applications must be made out at the regional immigration bureau or office that has jurisdiction in your area. The Hiroshima Regional Immigration Bureau, Sakaiminato Branch Office has jurisdiction over all of Tottori Prefecture.

Directions to the Sakaiminato Branch Office
(1) From the Sakaiminato JR Station (the last stop on the Sakaiminato Line)
Taxi: five minutes
Walking: 30 minutes.
(2) From the Yonago JR Station
1.Take the Hinomaru Bus bound for Sotohama Sakaiminato to the Motomachi Stop. It is a 15 minute walk from this stop.
2.Take the Nihon Kotsu Bus bound for Sakaiminato to the Agarimichi-cho Stop. It is a 10 minute walk from this stop.
3. Take the Nihon Kotsu Bus bound for Sakaiminato to the Sakai-keisatsusho-mae (Sakai Police Station) Stop. It is a 10 minute walk from this stop.
